Experiences and new projects in libraries and contemporary art archives

Documentation centres for art have developed in response to society’s demands for information and have become vital, dynamic institutions that use communication technologies as the main tool for making their museum’s collection and services known.
A documentation centre acts as a basic support tool for the tasks and activities carried out in a museum. It also attends to the needs of the general public and external researchers, promoting the study of artistic production and the cultural value of museums and of art.
The objective of these Encounters is to act as a forum for analysing the role of documentation centres in relation to the functions of museums. They also aim to promote cooperation programmes between different institutions.

Carmen Garrido. Head of the media archive at the Caixaforum cultural centre (Barcelona, Catalonia)
Eduvigis Hernandez Cabrera. Head of the library at the Atlantic Centre of Modern Art (CAAM, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Canary Islands)
María Victoria Goberná. Head of the library at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM, Valencia)
Miguel Valle Inclan. Head of the archives and library at the Reina Sofia National Art Museum (MNCARS, Madrid)
Oscar Guerra. Coordinator of the archives and library at the Patio Herreriano Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art (MPH, Valladolid, Castile and Leon)
